For those few who have yet to visit this Gold Coast carnivores’ institution, make sure you arrive with an empty stomach.

Consistency is the secret behind the success of this 30-year-old hacienda-style restaurant established by the grandfather of its current owner, fourth-generation Gold Coaster Richard Cavill. Steaks Diane and Caribbean are menu hits as are the double crusted parmesan lamb cutlets.

Buy the same meat served up in the restaurant at the butchery, a hit with locals, while the playground, extensive kids menu and a kitsch trio of plaster garden cows that go walkabout and dress for special occasions like State of Origin make it a family favourite.
